Standard 3: Educators understand and apply knowledge to student growth and development

Educators are knowledgeable about how children develop as learners and as social beings, and demonstrate an understanding of individual learning differences and special needs. This knowledge is used to assist educators in making decisions about curriculum, instruction, assessment and classroom management.

"Karina has demonstrated an understanding of the new provincial curriculum expectations and has been able to use them to direct classroom instruction. Karina has used prior and newly acquired knowledge within her instruction. She has made good use of a variety of tools to enhance learning.  She used overheads, videos, visual aids, Elmo, and charts.  She has shown an understanding of her student’s behavior, strengths, weaknesses, and needs.  She set realistic expectations for performance in all areas, based on student’s knowledge, abilities, and developmental levels.  Karina develops lessons that are age appropriate and included adaptations for different learning styles in the grade 4 classroom.
She has used current educational practices in her classroom and her lessons were appropriate for the grade 4 level of student development. Students were engaged in their learning and responded positively.  Karina used a variety of positive comments with the class to encourage them in their learning.
