Standard 5: Educators implement effective practices in areas of classroom management, planning, instruction, assessment, evaluation and reporting.

Educators have the knowledge and skills to facilitate learning for all students and know when to seek additional support for their practice. Educators thoughtfully consider all aspects of teaching, from planning through reporting, and understand the relationships among them. Educators employ a variety of instructional and assessment strategies.

"Karina’s planning (both short and long term) was very thorough and provided her students with a rich learning environment. She knew what she wanted to teach and her lessons were discussed with her sponsor teacher to ensure that the level of content and skill development would engage and motivate her students to learn. She used a wide variety of teaching methodologies and instructional strategies to challenge and engage her students.  Karina used technology to research subject areas as well in lesson delivery.  Technology was used to enhance student learning.   Her awareness of the varying ability levels of her students allowed her to create lessons that matched the needs of the students to the instruction. Karina created extension activities for those needing to be challenged and created adapted materials for those who struggled, allowing pictures to be drawn for students who struggled with their writing.  Her lessons were very creative and fun, engaging students in their learning.   Karina was very receptive to feedback from her supervisor and sponsor teacher while seeking additional support to improve her teaching practices. She was always open and willing to learn new ideas and valued the knowledge that her sponsor teacher shared. Karina demonstrated a variety of classroom management strategies such as positive reinforcement to encourage appropriate behavior. Karina had a calm, quiet manner using a soft spoken word to help keep students on task and focused.   Karina used a variety of assessment tools for her students on a regular basis and used this knowledge to adjust future lessons to encourage mastery of concepts. She wrote three reports that reflect on the child’s input for their learning and shared these with her sponsor teacher and Supervisor.  Karina worked hard to ensure that every student felt included and successful in her classroom."
